MICULLA
DISTRICT
Miculla is considered one of rock art sites larger southern Peru. It extends from the mouth of the Quebrada de Palca to the pampa of San Francisco. It is located between km. 18 and 25.500 of the Tacna-Palca road, at a height that from 1400 to 1580 mts. on sea level at 17 º 52'00 "south latitude and 70 º 07'00" west longitude in the District of Pachía, province and department of Tacna.
Petroglyphs Miculla
In Miculla, distance and the stones are mother and children. In the ravines and Uchusuma Palca, near the river Caplina, found more than 1,500 petroglyphs on granite stones and volcanic tuff - scattered in an order yet indecipherable - a hard, barren area of 2205.43 hectares. Of these, 42 hectares of the Pampas of San Francisco have recently Quaternary formations (five million years) with 496 mythical figures and percussive in Rocon Cantitos shot from the Formative period, passing through the stage Tiahuanaco a century and during the peaceful conquest of Tupac Yupanqui. Here, in a fantastic cultural continuity, the primeval artists and shamans insinuating recreated magic-religious people, who point out astronomical directions, along with hunting scenes, erotic music festivals and ceremonies of fertility.
